  • The following factors need to be present in order for there to be a good outcome for children of divorced parents:

    1. Children have easy access to both parents thereby maintaining a quality relationship with them.
This ensures that the children do not feel that they have lost a parent.

    2. Parents keep their relationship cooperative and their conflict low.

    3. Sensitive child-rearing practices are applied to this new situation. Parents need to read, study, and ask questions as difficulties arise.

    4. The children’s changes are kept to a minimun. It is optimal for parents to stay somewhat near each other and in the same neightbohood that they lived in before the divorce.

    5. Good social support systems are present for the children and the parents.
