A Radical Change in Custody Policy

The book: THE CUSTODY REVOLUTION by Richard Warshak,PhD quotes some research that I will briefly summarize. He states that (all things being equal) the typical custodial father does as good a job as the typical custodial mother. Then with some studies to back him he says that many (not all) boys may be better off living with their fathers after divorce and that many girls may be better off living with their mothers. The Texas studies that he refers to show that compared with children in the custody of the opposite sex parent, children in the custody of the same sex parent were rated more mature, sociable, cooperative and independent. They were less anxious and less demanding, and had more self-esteem.
